Both, the International Criminal Bar (ICB) and its Secretariat were established in 2002, with headquarters located in Barcelona, Spain. The principal task of the Secretariat is to coordinate its members and projects and manage the daily aspects of the functioning of the ICB, while also liaising with partners and institutions, especially the International Criminal Court (ICC) and other international courts and institutions.

The Secretariat also has the responsibility of supervising financial aspects and funding of ongoing projects, mainly coming from dues from members, groups and associations linked to the ICB.

Additionally, the ICB's Secretariat provides updated information and support on current issues affecting the practise of international criminal law, and is involved in raising-awareness on the importance of promoting and protecting international criminal justice.
